Tampa Bay pitcher Wade Davis has agreed to a $12.6 million, four-year contract with the AL East champions that could be worth up to $35.1 million. The deal was announced Thursday on the eve of the Rays' season opener against the Baltimore Orioles. The 25-year-old went 12-10 with a 4.07 ERA as a rookie last year.

A seven-day disabled list for concussions wouldn't have done Aaron Hill much good when the Toronto Blue Jays second baseman missed the final four months of 2008 with the injury. That didn't stop him from saying the move, and several other guidelines instituted by Major League Baseball on Tuesday, was another positive sign the sport is doing more and more to address concussions.

Continuous rain throughout the afternoon prompted the decision around 2 1/2 hours before the scheduled pitch first at 7:05 p.m. The forecast called for additional rain well into the evening.

David Price thinks he's primed for a strong start to the season. The Tampa Bay Rays ace had his final prep work for opening day, pitching four innings Sunday in a 5-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Price, who will get the ball Friday night in Baltimore, gave up one run and five hits. The 2010 AL Cy Young Award runner-up walked one and struck out three.
